Q: " Is track and field expensive?"
A: No, compared to other sports, track is very inexpensive. Unlike other sports like football, our registration fees cover your uniform and warmups (which are yours to keep for the next season), as well as your gym bag. Also included are your entry fees for every regular season meet, facility usage fees, (we are charged by the school where we practice) and every athlete is invited to the banquet free of charge
Q: "My child has never run track before, is that ok?
A: Yes, in our system first year track athletes do very well. We provide a strong foundation with an emphasis on teaching the fundamentals of track and field.
Q: " How old do you have to be to run track?"
A: We take children as young as 4 years old.
Q: " Is there a lot of traveling?"
A: That depends on you the parent. On the Cheetahs, we will have 2 teams this year. One team will be a developemental team that will stay mainly in San Diego for track meets. The other team will compete locally as well as go up to LA and Orange Counties for track meets. This team is made up of athletes that want to compete at a high level and qualify to run in the Junior Olympics. Important:!!!! Any athlete can compete on either team. It's up to the parents level of committment.
Q: I'm not sure my child will like running, can we try it out before we committ?
A: Yes, there are 2 ways. You can bring your child to preseason practice and that way they can experience what practice is like. They will learn the drills, terminology and types of things that we do. Or, you can come and do the first 2 weeks of the regular season practice and "try it out."
